Tips & Tricks

  1. Turn off the camera CLICK SOUND: On the upper left hand side of your iPhone, there is a switch to turn off sound. This can be very helpful if you find that a person is making you uncomfortable, but you do not want to antagonize them by letting them know that you are taking a picture. Simply click this button to OFF and then touch your IcePics icon or "Take picture" button (if the app is already up.) There is a delay of a few seconds for the phone to Auto-Focus, so you can act as if you are listening to a call or dialing a number and actually be framing up your shot.
  2. If attacked inform a perpetrator of the technology: This will almost certainly deter the person from a criminal action as their chance of being caught is almost certain.
  3. Throw your phone: If you feel that you have less than a few seconds before a perpetrator smashes your phone. Take the picture and just toss it in some grass, on a roof or anywhere that gives the phone the few seconds it needs to send. Another option would be to crouch over the phone for these few seconds. A perpetrator is very unlikely to figure out if a picture was already send and will more than likely flee.
  4. Tell your friends of the technology: The more people that know that this technology exists, the less likely a perpetrator is likely to attack, because this technology can have a great "chilling effect" on a criminal. Tell friends to hold up any phone if approached by a criminal, regardless of whether they have this app, and most criminals will not want to analyze the situation, but will rather flee!
  5. Non-Security use: You may also find this app an excellent way to avoid the process you currently need to go through to send photos to yourself. Just set up your home email as the recipient address and all of your photos will be in your own mailbox without the multi-step process that must be used to send them without this app.
